The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers are one of those bands you just have to see live. The alt-folk outfit's stage shows are a storm of action, with their mesh of banjo and guitar bursting with full-tilt group enthusiasm. According to the Twin Cities Daily Planet, they're "possibly the best example of how the live music experience can be far beyond what you might expect from listening to the recorded material." Most longtime Avett fans would agree, and all of them should be psyched that their boys are slated to take the Live On Letterman stage on October 30 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. VEVO will stream the show on VEVO.com and its free iOS mobile devices.

The concert celebrates the arrival the Avett's new Magpie And The Dandelion. The North Carolina-based outfit, featuring Seth Avett on guitar, Scott Avett on banjo and Bob Crawford on bass helped forge a fresh style of energetic folk music during the last five years. Their latest album, a followup to their previous hit, The Carpenter, was produced by Rick Rubin. It underscores the band's animated attack while bringing an enhanced sensitivity to the music. The songs for the new album were initially sketched during recording sessions for its predecessor. "Another Is Waiting" is the first video from the record.
Seth Avett recently told Rolling Stone about the differences in the two releases. "The Carpenter feels like a lantern and Magpie...feels like a bunch of fireworks. With The Carpenter there's a consistent sort of maturing and arc, and with Magpie - Scott made up this phrase about 'young wonderment,' and there is some sort of sparkly-eye wonderment to [this album]."
Fans will have the opportunity to influence the band's Live On Letterman set by voting on their choice for the last song of the performance on CBS.com, which also streams the performance.
